As of 6/29/01, Josh's current interests are
| Airplanes, airports, and baggage From an early age, Josh has been fascinated by airplanes and, especially baggage handling. Anything with a handle becomes a "suitcase", and he has his own real suitcase which he takes with him on trips. He routinely takes us through elaborate games in which "the bags go in the trunk of the car and then onto the van and then they go to the airport where they get tickets and go on a conveyor belt and then they go on the baggage truck and the man puts them in the trunk of the plane". | |
| Baseball For a not-quite-three-year-old, Josh is a pretty good baseball player...and he loves the game, even if he is still at the stage in which he thinks that the pitcher pitches the ball so that the batter can hit it. Since he is a lefty, finding a glove for him was a bit of a problem, as all of the "baby gloves" are for right-handers. We finally got his cousin's size 8 hand-me-down, which is still too big for him to close with one hand. (And sporting-goods stores routinely aver that nothing smaller than a nine is made.) |
Not only is his hand-eye coordination surprisingly good, but his stamina is amazing, and he will pull Susan and/or me out to play with him daily for long periods of time (if we'll cooperate). During the first few months of this obsession, we only once had him be the one to ask to stop. At a party, the first time he used a real wooden bat and real ball, after about an hour and a half rotating through three adults pitching to him, he finally said "I'm getting tired; let's stop".
